Annual Yuletide Tree Lighting Event

The 2023 Town of Taos Christmas Season officially kicks off with the lighting of our Town Christmas tree during the 37^th Annual Yuletide Tree Lighting Event on Saturday, December 2, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Taos Plaza.  Join Mayor Pascualito Maestas, our Town Council and the wonderful community of Taos at this annual event! This year again a beautiful live tree was placed on the Plaza.

Mayor Pro Tem Darien Fernandez and Councilwoman Corilia Ortega will be the MCS.

Events include Welcome by Mayor Pro Tem Darien Fernandez and Councilwoman Corilia Ortega, Invocation and Holiday Greetings by Gary J. Lujan, Taos Pueblo Governor, Joel Archuleta, Taos Pueblo Warchief Secretary, and Daniel Lucero, Taos Pueblo Tribal Secretary.

Seasonal Entertainment

Music and merriment will be provided by Mariachi Paisanos de Taos, Taos High School and Taos Middle School Choir under the direction of Joaquin Maestas-Manuel, Fiestas de Taos Royal Court Introduction and Holiday Greetings, Julia Struck Classical Flamenco and Middle Eastern Dance (gifts sponsored by The Body Shop for the first 25 children after Julia’s show), Taos Valley Lodge’s the Grinch, Rodeo de Taos Royalty representing the Taos County Sheriff’s Posse Introduction and Holiday Greetings, and Los Comanches de la Serna.

At approximately 6:00 PM, Mayor Pascualito Maestas will welcome in the Holiday Season with a special Holiday Greeting and the countdown to the lighting of the tree.

Bring the kids to visit Santa and Mrs. Claus!  Special guests will be Clifford the Big Red Dog, Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, Stitch, and Taos Valley Lodge’s the Grinch.

Complimentary hot chocolate and cookies will be served.

Taos Plaza will be closed to vehicular traffic from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM; however, the Taos Plaza Merchants will be open to foot traffic. FREE event parking will be available at Loretto Parking Lot, Town Hall, and Taos Public Library. For handicapped parking and for people requiring ADA access to the event, there will be parking at the McCarthy Parking Lot directly behind the old County Courthouse.
