Mary Hanrahan
Mixed Media Artist

Mixed Media: Mary Hanrahan brings together past and present imagery.

Mary Hanrahan is a mixed-media, assemmblage, collage, and encaustic artist. She has collected snippets of ephemera all her life. In 2010, she was accepted to the Vermont College of Fine Arts Design program received her MFA in 2013. During her research and making, she was able to study and explore her process which was letting go of collected ephemera into new, rearranged mixed-media works. It was time to let go of the nostalgia and memorabilia, and by repurposing it she was able to give new life, and new design to the collection of imagery. Artists who have inspired her work: Agnes Martin, Sol LeWitt, Bridget Riley and Joseph Cornell. She is currently the Asst. Director in Graphic Design for Vermont College of Arts

Also, below is a sample of a one-a-day daily practice she did a few years ago, entitled 365 Cups of Tea. Each morning (for a year) Mary would make tea, draw with watercolor pencils on an ironed 2 x 2 (emptied) tea bag. The image was drawn in the time it took to drink one, or two cups of tea.
