Organizations, groups, societies and individual either supporting or participating in the Visual Arts around the Taos County area, including oil, watercolor, acrylic painting, illustrations, printmaking and other mediums.
The Visual Arts in Taos is an extensive, active community of artists exploring expression through various painting techniques using oil, watercolor or acrylic paints, varied illustration styles, mixed media, collage and other similar approaches. The styles range from classical to abstract, contemporary to comical, portrait to personal.
Drawn by the infamous light of Northern New Mexico and a supportive natural and social environment, Taos has evolved into a rich artist colony in which the Visual Arts are a pervasive part. Everywhere we are surrounded by the works of artists known and unknown – from the half dozen Museums in the area – to the numerous exhibits, showings and Galleries around town – to the art randomly hanging in the coffee shops, town halls, restaurants – to the walls for murals and other such spots, places or venues.

The Taos County area offers a unique combination of light, nature, culture and color that is a rich environment for photography. As such it has drawn numerous photographers who are experts at their chosen fields of focus – such as landscape, aerial, nature, cultural, artistic, panorama, portrait and more. This section lists the individuals who work at this field of study as either professionals or from a more casual perspective, but all share the enthusiasm and exploration to see and capture what the Taos County area Panorama offers to their lens.

They can present us with a wide spectrum of appearance including patterns, colors, shape and style and also present widely different surface finishes from coarse to water smooth – from the feel of the many types of finished surfaces and glazes of fired pottery, tiles, and figurines to all types of glass creations and their signature colorings, dimension and touch.

Writing, the verbal art – prose, poetry, stream, song, biographical, historical… This listing focuses on the individuals and groups engaged in the many styles of creative writing and explorations of literature in the Taos County area. Taos hosts many groups and classes which examine, discuss, practice and read in the effort to study and further writing skills. It also is home to and visited by many individuals writing for all reasons and seasons, in a wide range of genres, and on topics both near and far.

Dance, and the greater encompassing term Moving Arts, describes the many types, practices and schools of dancing activities available to residents and visitors to the Taos County area. Taos offers ballet, flamenco, modern, african, estatic, country, salsa, therapeutic and more, not to mention the many types of traditional dances of the Taos Pueblo.
Dance in general is the art of movement and the expression of many aspects – the beauty of the human body, storytelling, emotional release or description, the practice and adherence to traditional or cultural values, religious participation, physical health and exercise, and intimate activity or just plain fun. Weaving and the greater world of Fabric or Textile Arts are both a longstanding traditional activity and contemporary art in Taos. Artists in the area explore many of the directions this art form can take – dyeing, printing, embroidery, needlework, sewing, knitting, quilting and the like. Their creations include all types of clothing and household items such as rugs, quilts, blanketry and wall hangings, to more abstract applications such as mixed media art and other novelties. The Music Scene in the Taos County area is as varied and extensive as its people and landscape – classical, blues, country, rock and roll, alternative, reggae, jazz, choral, world – the list goes on… In addition to the local talent, Taos also attracts a constant stream of visiting artists and concerts and festivals keeping the music scene lively, varied and rich.
